The film begins with an arresting image: a whole family hanged from a from a tree. The quiet death scene sets the tone for next 110 minutes; Sinister is a slow-burning supernatural thriller.
True crime writer Ellison has just moved to a new town where he will write about a local murdered family and a missing girl. His research takes an unexpected turn when he finds a box of home movies in his attic. The films depict a series of murders, and as Ellison digs deeper into each one, he uncovers a bizarre link between the crimes.
Sinister is authored by Austin native and Fantastic Fest alum Robert Cargill. Needless to say, the film was well received but Cargill's status as a local celebrity has, in my opinion, nothing to do with how well the movie played. Sinister is a good, creepy movie that will freak you out and make you jump.

I'm so glad to read this movie is worth seeing. I've been looking forward to it forever or at least as long as I've been seeing ads for it.
